Departmental Waitlist Policy & Procedure

Applicable to AMNE_V, ARBC_V, GREK_V, HEBR_V, and LATN_V Course Waitlists:

  • When a course section fills up, a waitlist will automatically be generated. Not all courses will have an automatically generated waitlist. If a course you are interested is full and does not have waitlist, please contact amne.undergrad@ubc.ca.
  • You can register for as many waitlist sections as you like in Workday, without your total credit limit being affected. Click on the ‘waitlist’ button on a course to register for the waitlist.
  • Registration priority will be given to honours/majors/minors within the department. Otherwise, waitlist order is determined by waitlist registration time.
  • You have 24 hours to accept or drop a seat once you receive a Workday notification about a seat being available in the course.
  • The notification will expire if you do not respond within 24 hours, and the seat will automatically be given to the next waitlisted person in line.
  • Please ensure your waitlist course sections do not conflict with your registered course sections. If a seat becomes available in a course and a scheduling conflict is found, the student with the course conflict will be emailed to alert them, giving them 2-3 business days to clear the conflict. If the waitlisted student does not contact the department by the deadline indicated on the email, they will be removed from the waitlist.
  • Students who let three or more notifications expire may be removed from the waitlist at the discretion of the Department.
